NWCG S-190, Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior

NWCG introductory course designed to train entry-level firefighters, Fire-fighter Type 2 (FFT2). Course covers basic incident management organization, firefighting techniques, suppression equipment, safety, strategy/tactics along with fire behavior.  Field exercises will be performed for valuable hands-on training.  Includes L-180.

Basic Firefighting & Wildfire Behavior (Field Day Only)

Course is for individuals who have taken S-130/190 online. Students must submit proof upon arrival to the academy that they have completed the online portion of this class. Pack test, dependent on weather, may be included as part of this class.

•Laced Leather Work Boots • Gloves • NOMEX OR Cotton clothing • Hard Hat with chin strap • Protective eye classes • Water Bottle • Dust/Smoke Mask (optional) • Fire Shelter (optional) • Fire Line gear (optional) Ear protection devices

***IN ORDER FOR YOU TO ATTEND THE FIELD DAY S-130/190 CLASS AT THE ACADEMY YOU MUST BRING WITH YOU 3 COURSE COMPLETION CERTIFICATES:

-(1) CERTIFICATE FOR THE S-130 ONLINE CLASS

-(1) CERTIFICATE FOR THE S-190 ONLINE CLASS

-(1) CERTIFICATE FOR L-180

YOU WILL BE HANDING THESE TO THE INSTRUCTOR.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ONLINE PORTION

This course is available in the NWCG Wildland Fire Learning Portal (WFLP). Log on as a guest or create an account which is highly encouraged to track any classes taken through the portal. Print and save a copy of all certificates for your records.

The course is also available through National Fire Academy (NFA) Online. An NFA Online account is needed; follow the directions on NFA Online to obtain an account. Search for course title in the catalog and add the online course to your To-Do-List. NFA Online will track your progress. When all modules are successfully completed, you will receive a certificate, print or save this certificate.

Step 1 - create an account on Wildland Fire Learning Portal (WFLP) website, it may take a few days for your account to be approved so plan ahead! It can take 16-20+ hours to complete all 3 courses.

Step 2 - Choose online course from the list on the right side of the WFLP homepage screen under "On Demand Self-Enroll Courses".

Step 3 - Don't forget to print and save a copy of your course completion certificates

Step 4 - Bring all (3) S-130/S-190/L-180 completion certificates with you to turn into your class instructor at the Academy.

***The Pack Test is not part of the curriculum of the S-130/190 during the Academy. The test will be administrated by your agency.
