New York Wildfire & Incident Management Academy 2025

Please note classes will be held at two locations – please pay close attention to emails with class locations. Check in and Briefings will only be held at Brookhaven National Laboratory.
If your class is held at BROOKHAVEN NATIONAL LAB (BNL)
REAL ID requirements are in effect.
All visitors, users, guests, and contractors requesting access to the Lab site must provide an active REAL ID-compliant identification document to either the Laboratory Protection Division or the Guest, User & Visitor Center. Passport or Real ID License is acceptable. Those not in possession of a REAL ID-compliant document will not be permitted to access the site. REAL ID Act
BNL REGISTRATION FORM
MUST BE COMPLETED BY SEPTEMBER 30TH All academy attendees, both staff and students who are utilizing BNL HOUSING will be required to complete a BNL Gate Access Registration which can be found at: http://www.bnl.gov/wildfire/.
BNL LODGING MUST BOOK BY OCTOBER 1st
If you are interested in staying onsite at BNL, there are two options for lodging on BNL:
Guest House Rooms (hotel style) $138/per night
Or Dormitory Rooms $69/ per night

CHECK-IN
All students, instructors and staff must check-in at the Brookhaven Center(Building 30), prior to the start of class. Check-in hours are 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Guests should make every attempt to arrive during these hours.
Check in lines can be an issue at the Guest Center so please come early and allow yourself enough time to find parking, register at BNL and Check-in for NYWIMA and get to class. Classes will start promptly at 8:30 am.
Once you have arrived:
- Complete BNL Access Registration (Building 101)
- Follow NYWIMA signs for directions to CHECK-IN (Building 30)
- Check-in on your first day and demob (check-out) on your last day (Building 30).
DRESS CODE
While in class, business/ casual attire is acceptable. Please refer to the required equipment list in the other student attachment for additional attire if you are attending classes that have a field component. For any Law Enforcement Officers: You must be in uniform if you choose to remain armed when you are on the property.
MEALS
You will break daily for a lunch period. Lunch will be on your own and at your own expense. On campus options can be found at BNL | Berkner Hall Cafeteria
A list of local eateries will be provided, and you will be given sufficient time to get a meal.
TASKBOOKS
There will be a Training Specialist (TNSP) for all students to speak with about any taskbook that you would like to open, or complete. Taskbooks will not be issued at the Academy but should be initiated by your home unit.
BRIEFINGS
There will be a morning briefing beginning at 8:00 am every day before classes at Brookhaven Center (Building 30). We encourage everyone to come to this. Important daily information will be relayed as well as introductions will be done for instructors and other command and general staff.
There will be a follow-up Operational briefing at 8:30 am. This is for all Command and General Staff. All updates, schedules, transportation and logistics changes will be discussed at this time.
