In Memoriam
Dick Amper for decades stood as a fierce advocate for the protection of the Central Pine Barrens, both to make sure the region was protected in 1993, and also in the years since to make sure that the mandates in the Long Island Pine Barrens Protection Act were carried out to the letter. He was relentless in pursuing what he felt was right, principled but willing to work with others, and—always—true to his cause. While the Commission’s decisions were not always what he wanted, there was never a doubt on where he stood on an application. Our thoughts are with him and his family.
Dick passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026. He was 81 years old.
